On-Campus Employment

Your F-1 student status permits you to work on-campus at the institution that issued your Form I-20 while you are enrolled in a full course of study without prior approval from United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). You must maintain F-1 status to be eligible for this employment benefit. This benefit is available immediately and the position or type of employment does not need to be related to your field of study.

Definition of  “On-Campus” Employment

  • Employment for Williams College. Check out the HR student employment section.
  • Work performed on-campus for a commercial firm providing direct services to students
  • Employment at an off-campus location that is a Williams College affiliate and integral to your academic program. If you are not sure whether the employment opportunity would meet the definition of “on-campus” employment, please ask the Assistant Director of International Student Services.

When does “On-Campus” Employment end?

You are no longer authorized for on-campus employment at Williams College when you graduate or are no longer maintaining F-1 status through Williams College. This includes completion of all degree requirements, expiration of your current I-20, your SEVIS record is transferred to another school, or your F-1 student status is violated and/or the SEVIS record is terminated. It is important that you understand and plan ahead for the impact any of these actions may have on your ability to continue working at Williams College.
